‘Bandhani’ is a Tie and Dye technique to color cotton fabrics from Gujarat, India. This debut production of an hour long dance drama was created with the idea of showcasing various known and unknown Gujarati folk dances in a fresh, new, contemporary form to the audience that increases awareness of these dance forms The ‘Bandhani’ fabrics that are handmade, colored exclusively by the artisans and all the fabrics, costumes and props were procured exclusively from the villages in Kutch, Gujarat to maintain its authenticity. This production was showcased in * Jagriti Theatre, Bangalore in January 2014 and was also the only production selected from the South Zone to perform in the ‘Swarrajya Folk Festival’ at Siri Fort Auditorium in April 2014. This has also been performed in several corporate shows across Bangalore, India to promote Gujarat folk dances. The dance forms that were studied during this production were Garba,-Raas amongst the known forms and the Tippani-dance,-Gof-Raas-that were-choreographed on either authentic Gujarat folk music or Non Gujarati instrumental music that used a strong influence of etc.-The-Siddhi-Damal dance has special similarities to the native tribal African dance movements * and this production captured the similar essence of this dance form.
